About the Role:
Vitacore is seeking a Laboratory Manager to support the day-to-day functioning, organisation, and continuous improvement of our laboratory environment.
This role is ideal for a scientist who enjoys hands-on lab work but is increasingly drawn toward operations, systems, and team enablement. You will play a central role in ensuring the lab runs smoothly – establishing structure, maintaining inventory and workflows, supporting onboarding, and acting as a key resource for the team.
Working closely with the Senior Scientist and R&D team, you will help create a highly organised, efficient, and collaborative lab environment, while also contributing scientifically when needed.
Responsibilities include:
- Establish, implement, and continuously improve lab organisation systems, workflows, and processes.
- Manage and maintain lab inventory, supplies, and ordering ensuring availability of critical materials and consumables.
- Develop and maintain inventory tracking systems and ensure accuracy across all lab assets.
- Oversee the regular upkeep, calibration, and maintenance of laboratory equipment, ensuring all instruments are functioning properly and compliant with internal standards.
- Coordinate equipment servicing, troubleshooting, and vendor support as required.
- Support the onboarding and training of new staff, co-op students, and research assistants, including lab orientation, processes, and best practices.
- Act as a go-to resource within the lab, providing guidance on procedures, equipment usage, and general lab operations.
- Assist in maintaining SOPs, documentation, and lab standards to ensure consistency and reproducibility.
- Coordinate and facilitate communication between the R&D team and senior leadership.
- Support project planning, budgeting, and resource allocation across multiple R&D initiatives.
- Monitor lab operations to proactively identify gaps, inefficiencies, or risks, and implement improvements.
- Provide hands-on scientific support where needed, including assisting with experiments, troubleshooting, and general lab work.
- Maintain a safe, organised, and positive working environment within the lab.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, or a related scientific field.
- Hands-on laboratory experience, ideally including PCR, molecular biology, or general wet-lab techniques.
- Strong organisational skills with a demonstrated ability to build and manage systems, workflows, and processes.
- Experience with lab inventory management, ordering, and vendor coordination.
- Ability to balance scientific work with operational responsibilities.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to support and guide team members at different levels.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving startup environment.
- Proactive, resourceful and solutions-oriented mindset.
- High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
BONUS:
- Experience setting up or scaling laboratory operations.
- Familiarity with inventory management systems (e.g., Sortly, LIMS, or similar tools).

Compensation:
- $55,000 $85,000 annual salary, depending on experience.
